Adam Burgess will finally get to enjoy his Asian holiday starting next month.

Life has been full of joy for the Great Britain paddler lately. After missing out on an Olympic medal by 0.16sec at Tokyo 2020, Burgess stood on the podium at Paris 2024, winning silver in the men’s canoe single.

Following the celebrations, including a red carpet debut at the premiere of the sci-fi movie Alien: Romulus, the 32-year-old said it had been a bit of a “transition” to get back to work.

As he enjoyed competing at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom World Cup in Ivrea earlier this month, Burgess is now looking to rest but before embarking on his well-earned Asian sojourn, he has one last stop to make.

With Canoe Sprint, Canoe Slalom, Canoe Polo and Canoe Marathon all taking place simultaneously, the 2024 ICF Hangzhou Super Cup is set to run from October 11 to 13 and Burgess expressed his excitement for the multi-discipline competition.

“I am excited for the Super Cup in China. It is going to be a new experience. I have never been to China before. It is going to be fun, and it is an exciting concept. There is also a big prize money. A lot of things are new for slalom,” he said.

“I am going to stay out in Asia for a holiday. It is much needed after a long season anyway. I am going to visit my brother in Hong Kong. We will also be heading to Thailand after that.

“It is indeed a multi-discipline event for canoeing. A lot of athletes I know are going to be there. I might even make a second appearance in the kayak cross after the Olympics. We will see.”

With a prize money of almost $400,000, the new event will be the first multi-discipline Super Cup ever.

China Media Group has already announced that it will broadcast the event which will take place at the Fuyang Water Sports Centre.

The venue staged the slalom and sprint events at last year’s Asian Games in Hangzhou and the Super Cup will add to its legacy.

It will also be the first major competition in China after the ICF opened its new satellite office in the city.

The Super Cup will be jointly organised by China Media Group, the General Administration of Sport of China, the ICF, and the Hangzhou Municipal Government.
