China Media Group has announced that the International Canoe Federation Super Cup will be one of the biggest sporting events that it will broadcast this year.

Canoe sprint, canoe slalom and kayak cross, canoe polo and canoe marathon will form part of what is set to be a thrilling multi-discipline competition in the Chinese city of Hangzhou.

Hundreds of athletes from across the world are poised to compete for almost USD $400,000 in prize money.

This exciting new event showcasing the four disciplines is due to be held from October 11 to 13 this year.

The ICF Super Cup has been named on the CMG’s broadcast list for 2024 alongside events including the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris and the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon.

The announcement comes after the ICF and the CMG signed a partnership in 2023 to secure a strong digital and linear presence for paddle sport throughout mainland China and Macau.

ICF President Thomas Konietzko said the ICF Super Cup will inject new energy into the growth of paddle sport.

"This event promises to be a spectacular showcase of talent and skill, bringing together the world's top teams in four disciplines: canoe sprint, canoe slalom, canoe marathon, and canoe polo," said Mr Konietzko.

"The collaborative efforts of ICF and CMG in co-hosting this event reflect a shared commitment to advancing the sport of canoeing in China, which, with its vast and fertile rivers and lakes, serves as one of the key countries for developing our sport."

Canoe slalom and canoe sprint were on the programme at last year’s Asian Games in Hangzhou, with competition staged at the impressive Fuyang Water Sports Centre.

China starred on the water, winning 12 of the 16 gold medals on offer across the two disciplines.

Paracanoe made a successful debut at the Asian Para Games in October last year, with Uzbekistan, Iran, China and India all claiming titles.
