Registration has opened for this year’s International Canoe Federation Masters Canoe Sprint World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. 

It will be a fantastic event packed full of brilliant races which will take place from July 12 to 14. 

Paddlers ranging from over 35 to over 70 will have the opportunity to compete against the best in the world in their respective age category. 

They will have the chance to participate in races over the distances of 200m and 500m in K1, K2, K4, C1, C2 and C4. 

Some age groups might be combined depending on the number of entries. 

In the K2/C2 and K4/C4 events, the age of the youngest competitors will determine the age group in which a crew can compete. 

Plovdiv will also stage the ICF Junior and U23 World Championships from July 17 to 21.

“I am sure we will witness athletic performance of the highest quality and our efforts go towards making the Plovdiv regatta venue a worthy arena for a fair competition between the best athletes in the world,” said Nikolay Buhalov, President of the Bulgarian Canoe Federation.

“For years, we have received the right to carrying out this Championships. 

“During this time the rowing and canoeing channel in Plovdiv has completely changed: The big reconstruction of the sport complex has been made.” 

Evelina Petrova, Chief Executive and Secretary General of the Bulgarian Canoe Federation, added: “I am expecting this event to draw a large number of participants having had a lot of interest so far. 

“It will be a really good competition and a great advertisement for the sport.” 

Toshi Furuya, Chair of the ICF Canoe Sprint Committee, encouraged paddlers to help make this year’s World Championships a huge success. 

“I am really looking forward to this event as I am confident our Bulgarian friends will put on a fantastic competition,” said Mr Furuya. 

“The Masters Canoe Sprint World Championships always delivers amazing races and I am expecting this year’s competition to be no different.”
