Hungary’s Csillag Kocsis started the 2025 International Canoe Federation Stand Up Paddling World Ranking Series in stunning style as she bagged a brace of gold medals on Lago delle Nazioni, Italy.
Kocsis was in a superb form at the Spring SUP Race in Commachio, securing top spot in both the women’s technical and women’s long distance.
The first of her gold medals came in the women’s technical as Kocsis captured the title in 4:32.00.
Spain’s Duna Gordillo placed second in 4:36.00, with Italy’s Claudia Postiglione bagging bronze in 4:40.00.
Kocsis backed up her technical triumph with victory in the women’s long distance.
The Hungarian paddler won by almost three minutes in 1:15:37.00.
There was a terrific battle for second spot with just two seconds separating Gordillo and Pampinella.
Gordillo clinched silver in 1:18:32.00, edging out Pampinella who finished in 1:18:35.00.
The other women’s title went to home favourite Cecilia Pampinella in the 100m sprint after she crossed the line in 27.359.
It was an Italian one-two as Pampinella got the better of Postiglione who finished in 28.209.
Third place went to Japan’s Rika Okuaki who clocked 29.074 for the final spot on the podium.
Bulgaria’s Andrii Kraitor, the reigning world champion, took the men’s 100m sprint title in a brilliant sub-20 time of 19.799.
Spain’s Manuel Hoyuela came second in 21.678, with compatriot Sergio Cantoral placing third in 22.012.
After placing third in the sprint, Cantoral emerged victorious in the men’s technical.
The Spaniard took the title in 4:03.00 as he defeated fellow countryman Aaron Sanchez who crossed in 4:09.00.
Germany’s Normen Weber claimed bronze in 4:13.00.
The final day of competition saw Dutch paddler Donato Freens clinch the men’s long distance crown in 1:07:58.00.
France’s Ethan Bry sealed silver in 1:08:03.00 ahead of Italy’s Nicolo Vincenzo Ricco who posted 1:08:22.00 for bronze.
The ICF SUP World Ranking Series moves to the Greek island of Crete next month with back-to-back events in Sitia and Agios Nilolaos.
