Excitement is building ahead of the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom World Championships in Oklahoma City, United States. 

Multiple world champions and rising stars have come together at the LA28 Olympic venue for six days of competition. 

Races will take place from July 20 to 25 as athletes compete for the sport’s biggest prizes in canoe, kayak and kayak cross.

Here are some of the key numbers: 

256 – athletes will be competing, 

2014 – was the year when the United States last staged an ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with Deep Creek playing host. 

7 – reigning world champions will bid to retain their crowns with Poland’s Klaudia Zwolinska aiming to deliver another canoe-kayak double. 

5 – continents will be represented.

14 – is the age of the youngest paddler at the World Championships with Greece’s Dimitrios Zachos born in August 2011. 

11 – paddlers will compete on home waters including Olympic medallist Evy Leibfarth. 

4 – time kayak cross world champion Joseph Clarke of Great Britain will seek to make it five on the spin in the event. 

50 – countries are on the entry list. 

22 – World Championships medals have been won by Australia’s Jessica Fox in her glittering career, including 15 golds, three silvers and five bronzes. 

48 – is the age of the oldest paddler at the World Championships with Venezuala’s Jose Silva born in December 1977.
