Hayleigh got into canoeing through her dad who raced at the Montreal Olympics.
Hayleigh got taken off of funding in 2006 following a poor season, but it made her even more determined and that she was back on the programme by the end of the 2007. Following a heart operation in 2008 to correct heart arrhythmias, she went on to have the best season of her career.
