RIO DE JANEIRO - New Zealand paddler Mike DAWSON is hoping his second Olympic Games will be less of a family affair than his first, when his father protested his mother's awarding of a time penalty for touching a gate.
"At London 2012 I had quite a unique experience as my mum was a judge and she happened to give me a two-second penalty," DAWSON said after training at the Whitewater Stadium in Deodoro X-Park.

Nigeria's sole paddler had to leave his coach and kayak behind
RIO DE JANEIRO - Nigeria's first and only Olympic paddler Johnathan AKINYEMI (NGR) is in no doubt about his priorities after leaving his boat and father-turned-coach stranded in Frankfurt Airport on his way to Rio 2016.
“I felt a little bit guilty about abandoning my dad,” AKINYEMI said after training at the Whitewater Stadium. “But I have to say I missed the kayak more."

Canoeing Removes Five Russian Athletes from Rio 2016 Olympic Games
The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has taken swift action to remove five Russian Canoe Sprint athletes from the Rio Olympic Games following the release of additional information naming those implicated by the McLaren Report.
In each case the ICF will impose an immediate suspension pending further investigation making the offending athletes ineligible to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
There are 27 cases from the 25 Canoe Sprint athletes named in report, 11 have already been sanctioned.

Reallocation of Olympic Canoe Sprint Places
This is a rundown of the reallocation process for Rio 2016 Olympic Canoe Sprint places following suspensions for Romanian and Belarusian athletes.
All reallocations are applied to the races that the quota was originally allocated; in all cases for Romanian and Belarus athletes qualified through the 2015 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Milan, Italy.
