Sebastian Brendel of Germany was chosen as the International Canoe Federation’s Athletes’ Committee Chair for 2025-2029 in November, 2025.    

Currently, he is working simultaneously as Police Commissioner at the German Federal Police.
 
Sports practised
 
He won Olympic gold in the C1 1000m at London 2012 and Rio 2016, becoming the first paddler in 64 years to defend his title in the category.

In Rio, he also won the C2 1000 title and has a C2 1000 bronze from Tokyo 2020.

With a whopping 26 world medals, including 13 golds, he is among the most successful paddlers in the world.
 
Honours
 
Brendel received the Silbernen Lorbeerblatt [Silver Laurel Leaf] in 2012, the highest state sports award in Germany.

He won the Kienbaum Award from the German Olympic Committee in 2015, in recognition of his diligence during training and for being a positive example to young people. In the same year, he was named the 2015 Champion of the Year in Germany.

In 2012, 2014, and 2015, he was named Male Athlete of the Year in Brandenburg, Germany.
