A record number of ranking races are in place for the International Canoe Federation’s 2025 Canoe Slalom season.

The ICF is excited to have 43 slalom events on the calendar that will all offer world ranking points.

Among those includes five ICF Canoe Slalom World Cups, starting with La Seu, Spain from June 5 to 8, followed by Pau, France from June 12 to 15, Prague, Czechia from June 26 to 29, Tacen, Slovenia from August 28 to 31 and Augsburg, Germany from September 4 to 7.

Penrith, Australia – the venue for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games – will stage the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships from October 1 to 6.

Another ICF major event set for this year is the Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom World Championships that will be hosted by Foix, France from July 8 to 13.

Rio 2016 Canoe Slalom venue

Slalom action in 2025 will begin in just a few weeks’ time when the Rio Open takes place from January 22 to 26.

Competition will be staged at the Deodoro Radical Park, which hosted the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Europe will hold the largest number of ICF ranking races, but events will also be staged in Asia, Oceania and Pan America as Canoe Slalom continues to develop across the world.

Oklahoma City, United States, will stage an ICF ranking race at the end of March which will assist preparations for the 2026 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

There is plenty of excitement and interest surrounding kayak cross which made its Olympic debut at Paris 2024.

So far, 26 kayak cross events have been confirmed for 2025 – compared to 16 last year – and that number could increase even further.

Richard Fox, Chair of the ICF Canoe Slalom Committee, said: “This year promises to be an exciting one for our sport, culminating in the World Championships in Penrith, Australia, celebrating the Sydney 2000 legacy.

“Starting this month in the southern hemisphere, it is great to see so many federations around the world hosting ranking races this year, providing more opportunities for athletes to obtain ranking points.

“Following its successful introduction at Paris 2024, kayak cross is on the rise with an increasing number of organising committees hosting the event, including China, Brazil, Argentina and Chile, which is very exciting.”

The ICF world rankings will be released on April 3, May 30, July 1, September 10 and October 15.
