A two month-long project is set to get underway in Bolivia with the aim of developing canoeing in the South American country ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The International Canoe Federation is behind the launch of the National Sports System Development Project (DNSS) in Bolivia after securing funding from the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Solidarity.
Running from November 17 to December 22, the project will cover areas including boat production, coaching, good governance and National Technical Officials (NTOs).
The first stage of the DNSS will take place from November 17 to 22 and focus on domestic boat production.
Four molds will be provided to produce the boats with the aim of this being replicated by the Bolivian Navy to create new canoes for the growth of the sport in the country.
The second stage of the DNSS will run for much of December in the Bolivian city of Cochabamba.
A level one coaching course will take place from December 9 to 16 followed by a governance and good practices course for members of the National Federation on December 17.
NTOs will also benefit from the project with a course due to be held from December 18 to 22 in Cochabamba.
An ICF expert will be on hand to train the NTOs for national competitions.
Bolivia’s National Championships will be staged on December 21 and 22 in Cochabamba.
The objective of this event is to observe and identify talents that will be invited to training sessions organised by the ICF.
The third and final stage of the DNSS is to evaluate and discuss the results of the programme and develop strategic plans for the new Olympic cycle.
The aim is for Bolivia to win a medal at the Lima 2027 Pan American Games and qualify at least one boat for the LA28 Olympic Games.
