A quartet of brothers have been selected in Great Britain’s men’s senior squad for the first time as they head to China for the upcoming International Canoe Federation Canoe Polo World Championships and Hangzhou Super Cup. 

Shivan McCutcheon, Suryan McCutcheon, Santanam McCutcheon and Kartik McCutcheon have been chosen to represent Great Britain in both Hangzhou and Deqing. 

They are among 13 players from the Friends of Allonby, Liverpool that have been picked up across the men’s and women’s senior teams and men’s and women’s under-21 sides. 

There is also strong representation from Northern Ireland with Fergal McConvey and Sara Lanao-Madden returning to the senior teams, Angus Boyle and Jake Searle named in the men’s U21s and debutants Erin McCullough and Henry McCann chosen for the first time. 

The 2024 ICF Hangzhou Super Cup takes place from October 11 to 13 before Deqing  stages the ICF Canoe Polo World Championships from October 15 to 20.

Steve Watts, Chair of the Paddle UK Canoe Polo Committee said: “A huge thanks to those involved in sorting out and loading the container for the Canoe Polo boats to start their journey to China for the upcoming Super Cup and World Championships in October. 

“Good luck from the Canoe Polo Committee to all those selected and competing for GB and NI.” 

At the 2022 World Championships, Great Britain’s men’s senior team just missed out on the podium, finishing in fourth place. 

The women’s senior team were ninth, while the women’s U21s and men’s U21s placed fifth and seventh respectively.
