Selection season for this year’s global canoe sprint and slalom competitions picks up pace this weekend with several national federations holding trials to help determine which athletes will represent them at this year’s ICF World Cups and World Championships.

The United States, Canada, Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Serbia, Spain and Great Britain are among the countries who will be giving their best athletes the chance this week to book their tickets to represent their nation in canoe sprint, canoe slalom or kayak cross events.

Earning selection to compete at the world championships will also give athletes the chance to earn their country valuable Paris 2024 Olympic quotas.

In Oklahoma City slalom athletes from USA, Canada and Mexico will go head-to-head, hoping to earn their place on their national team in canoe slalom and kayak cross. The US will also host canoe sprint trials.

Brazil, Spain, Great Britain and Serbia  will host their canoe sprint trials this weekend, while Italy will be hosting both canoe sprint and slalom selection events.

Great Britain held its canoe slalom selections last weekend, with Rio Olympic gold medalist Joe Clarke and Tokyo silver medalist Mallory Franklin heading up a strong 12-member 2023 team.

Tokyo Olympians Kimberley Woods and Adam Burgess will also be back for another international season.
