The fairytale finish to the season has continued for Kimberley Woods, with the British paddler winning both the final women’s canoe gold and overall title in Augsburg, Germany.
It was a carbon copy of her results from 24 hours earlier at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom World Cup Final, when she won both the women’s kayak gold and overall crown.
In the men’s competition, reigning Olympic champion Nicolas Gestin of France wrapped up an incredible season by winning a third consecutive canoe gold, and in doing so also snatched the series title from his French teammate, Yohann Senechault.

Woods said she felt exhausted after a punishing two days of racing but was ecstatic at finishing the World Cup season on such a high.
“My first two runs today were pretty tough, so I’m just happy I was able to put together a good run in the final,” said Woods.
“I wasn’t really expecting to win, but my line was really good. It’s really tough to keep putting the runs down, because each one is about two minutes.
“But every win builds your confidence.”

Brazil’s Ana Satila and France’s Dorian Delassus picked up silver and bronze, respectively – the first medals for both athletes this season.
Gestin heads into this month’s ICF Slalom World Championships in Sydney full of confidence after picking up three consecutive World Cup wins in Europe.
His gold-medal run on Saturday was one of the highlights of the season, as he took the decision to take lines that no other athlete was able to achieve.
The Frenchman was rewarded with a winning margin of more than four seconds.
“I really didn’t know if it would be okay, but I just wanted to go for it,” said Gestin.
“It was my plan to go direct everywhere, and I knew I would have to adapt as I went along. I know for sure this was a good run. This win shows me I can really attack. I’ve changed my style.
“I feel like after my win at the Olympics, I just go out on the water to play and to enjoy myself. I didn’t train a lot at the start of the year, I really needed to rest a lot. But my summer has been really good.”
Olympic silver and bronze medallist Matej Benus finished second, and Spain’s Miquel Trave took the bronze.
In the final overall World Cup standing Woods jumped from sixth to first to finish clear of Slovakia’s Zuzana Pankova, with Italy’s Marta Bertoncelli third in the women’s competition.
Gestin climbed from third to first to take the men’s title, with Senechault second and Trave third.
In a day full of drama, the two overall World Cup leaders for the 2025 season both failed to qualify for the kayak finals. Spain’s Miren Lazkano held a 19-point lead in the race for the women’s title, but finished 21st in the semi-final, while Senechault held a commanding 27-point lead but came 13th.
