Germany and Great Britain have won gold medals in the U21 competition at the 2017 Canoe Polo European Championships in Saint-Omer, France.

Germany celebrated the gold medal in women’s U21 tournament and Great Britain in men’s U21 tournament. Germany were in control after 20 minutes of the final game against Poland, in which Germany scored four times and Poland scored once.

Germany beat France in a semi-final match 6 – 1. France picked up the bronze medal in front of their fans after their 3 – 2 win in a match against the team of Great Britain. Netherlands finished the women’s U21 European Championships tournament in fifth place, Spain was sixth, Italy seventh and Ireland eighth.

Germany celebrated their second medal of the day after men’s U21 final, but they had to congratulate Great Britain for the gold medal game win. The British team won 3 – 2 against Germany.

Italy and Russia met in the third place game and Russia won 4 – 3 to celebrate bronze medal. Both semi-final games ended with the 3 – 2 result. Great Britain defeated Italy and Germany advanced to the final after the win against Russia.

Italy was fourth, France fifth, Switzerland sixth, Netherlands seventh, Poland eighth, Spain ninth, Denmark tenth, Ireland eleventh, Lithuania 12th, Belgium 13th and Portugal 14th.

The last champions will be known on Sunday when men and women in senior category will play in the classifying matches, semi-finals and finals. In the women’s tournament France will play against Switzerland and Germany against Great Britain in the semi-finals. In men’s part of the tournament the first semi-final game will be between Germany and Switzerland and the second between Italy and Spain.

The women’s gold medal match is scheduled for 14:00 and men’s for 15:00.
