There were tight finishes, new champions, and home success in a dramatic Canoe Sprint competition at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games Thailand 2025. 

The closest finish came in the women’s canoe double 200m as hosts Thailand and Vietnam shared the gold medal.  

Nothing could separate them, as Thailand and Vietnam both crossed the finish line in 43.420, with Indonesia coming third in 43.457.  

It was one of six gold medals won by Thailand in the Canoe Sprint events as they made home advantage count.  

Pitpiboon Mahawattanangkul helped himself to three SEA Games titles on home waters, including the men’s canoe single 500m gold as he triumphed in 1:58.314.  

Myanmar’s Myo Hlaing Win secured silver in 1:58.773 and Vietnam’s Pham Hong Quan bagged bronze in 2:03.663.  

Mahawattanangku also helped Thailand emerge victorious in the men’s C2 200m in 38.820 and men’s canoe four 200m in 34.223.  

Myanmar and Indonesia picked up silver and bronze, respectively, in both of those events.  

Thailand’s other gold medal came in the men’s kayak double 200m as they triumphed in 33.583 from Indonesia who clinched silver in 34.332, while bronze went to Vietnam in 34.486.  

As well as sharing women’s C2 200m gold with Thailand, Vietnam were crowned the SEA Games champions in the women’s C2 500m.  

This time, Vietnam got the better of Thailand, winning in 33.538 as Thi Huong Diep, Hong Thai Nguyen, and Thi Huong all picked up gold medals.  

Thailand clinched silver in 2:09.783 as Indonesia earned bronze in 2:16.410.  

Indonesia also came away with two gold medals, triumphing in the mixed kayak four 500m in 1:37.916 and mixed K2 200m in 36.409.  

The other medallists in the mixed K4 500m were Singapore and Thailand, who claimed silver and bronze, respectively.  

Singapore also got on the podium in the mixed K2 200m with bronze as Vietnam finished behind Indonesia to take silver.  

This came after Singapore struck gold in the mixed K2 500m as Guang Yi Lucas Teo and Jiexian Stephenie Chen finished first in 1:49.086.  

They overcame Vietnam, who sealed silver in 1:49.902, while Indonesia completed the podium with bronze in 1:50.985.
