France’s Nicolas Sauteur and Slovenia’s Ana Steblaj tasted a double dose of success in Skopje, North Macedonia with back-to-back victorious at the International Canoe Federation Wildwater Canoeing World Cups 4-5. 

Sprint titles were on offer on Friday and Saturday as Sauteur clinched two men’s canoe golds and Steblaj sealed two women’s kayak crowns. 

There were also golden doubles for France’s world champions Clement Monjanel and Corentin Combe and Switzerland’s Mona Clavadetscher and Hannah Mueller in the respective men’s and women’s canoe double.

On Friday, Sauteur emerged victorious from the men’s C1 final, overcoming fellow Frenchman Charles Ferrion by 0.18. 

Sauteur crossed in a time of 42.23 to take the title as Ferrion came second in 42.41 and Serbia’s Pavle Zdravkovic secured bronze in 42.86. 

Steblaj captured the first of her two women’s K1 titles in a time of 42.94.  

Belgium’s Clemence Hulpiau clinched silver in 43.48 with bronze going to Emma Lacoste of France in 43.75.

Fresh from winning his fourth world title and third in succession in the men’s k1, Slovenia’s Anze Uranker came out on top again on Friday. 

Urankar captured gold in 38.25 as he saw off the French challenge with Maxence Barouh coming second in 38.25 and Luca Barone finishing third in 38.54. 

Cecilia Panato of Italy added another World Cup gold to her collection, sealing top spot in the women’s C1 in 48.35. 

Slovakia’s Katarina Kopunova clinched silver in 48.37 as Germany’s Franziska Gawehn also got on the podium, securing bronze in 48.93. 

Monjanel and Combe swept to victory in the men’s C1 on the opening day, winning by almost two seconds. 

The French pairing claimed gold in 40.97 as Switzerland’s Cornel Bretscher and Jonah Muller earned silver in 42.91 and Serbia’s Zdravkovic and Vuk Bazic crossed in 44.63 for bronze. 

Switzerland tasted victory in the women’s C2 as Clavadetscher and Mueller triumphed in 47.40. 

Great Britain’s Emma Christie and Kerry Christie sealed silver in 48.91 as France’s Margot Beziat and Phenicia Dupras bagged bronze in 49.53. 

On day two, Steblaj claimed gold again as she came home in 43.06 for the women’s K1 title.

After earning bronze on Friday, Lacoste picked up silver on Saturday with a time of 43.34, while Czechia’s Marie Nemcova collected bronze in 43.96. 

There was also double delight for Sauteur as he won the men’s C1 crown in 42.32. 

Zdravkovic earned silver in 43.47 as Ferrion secured bronze in 43.85. 

Urankar’s hopes of a double were dashed as Barone came out on top in the men’s K1 final on Saturday. 

Barone won in 37.71 as compatriot Barouh claimed silver in 38.34 and Urankar had to settle for bronze in 38.63. 

Kopunova gained revenge over Panato in the women’s C1 final as she was victorious in 48.38. 

Panato missed out on gold by a mere 0.10, while Nemcova added another bronze with 49.56. 

Monjanel and Combe came out on top again in the men’s C2, winning in 41.38 as Zdravkovic and Bazic came second in 42.86 and bronze went to Bretscher and Muller in 43.53. 

Clavadetscher and Mueller also made it two wins from two in the women’s C2, triumphing in 47.86. 

The Christie siblings clinched silver in 49.04, while Czechia’s Anna Vikova and Beta Beierova secured bronze in 50.34.
