Two Canoe Sprint athletes from Poland — Dominika Putto and Katarzyna Kolodziejczyk — have vowed to return to the sport at the highest level after pregnancy, with an eye on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Putto and Kolodziejczyk are both expecting sons and will be out of action this season. However, the duo, who have won multiple world and European medals, recently spoke about their ambitions to return after embracing motherhood.

“I feel good. I train gently, as far as possible. I also started working with Katarzyna Lazniak, who is also responsible for my exercises and helps me a lot,” Putto said, as quoted by the Polish Canoe Federation.

“I'm not overloaded, which is very important.

"The child is developing properly. I surround myself with only good people, so I feel mentally even better than before pregnancy. I have a calm head," Kolodziejczyk added.

The future mothers praised the National Federation and their coach Zbigniew Kowalczuk for their support during the time away from the water.

Knowing that there is a scope for a return to the sport was uplifting for Putto while Kolodziejczyk said that Kowalczuk, who has coached her since her school days, was very positive when she shared the news.

“He also gave support when it came to my return to form. In fact, I felt a lot of peace," Kolodziejczyk said.

“Especially since due to various events recently I needed a break from grouping and hard training.”

Having said that, the duo are on the move with light exercises to keep fit and not overload their bodies.

“I calmly train in the gym and swim in the pool. I also take longer walks because I've stopped running. I keep physically active all the time, and then it is easier to return to sport," Putto said.

The athletes have already started planning for their return as they aim to qualify for the Games in LA. Putto will be 34 by then and Kolodziejczyk 29, but the supermoms-to-be are full of confidence.

“I will try to return to a level that will give me medals in the international arena.

“With the support I received from the authorities of the Polish Canoe Federation, the staff, coach and my family and friends, returning to top form with my son by my side will certainly be easier,” Kolodziejczyk concluded.
