There have been many memorable moments in a sensational International Canoe Federation season. In the last of our moments of 2024, we look back at when Indonesia put on a stellar display at the Dragon Boat World Cup and World Championships.
With The World Games being the pinnacle for all Dragon Boat athletes next year, the International Canoe Federation World Cup in Yichang and the World Championships in Puerto Princesa were the best and only opportunities for teams to book a quota.
The Indonesians, however, needed only one of those chances, grabbing a spot from the two places on offer in Yichang.
After three 10-seater mixed category races in Yichang, Indonesia and Thailand tied with 57 points, but victory in the 200m meant that Indonesia qualified as the top nation.
A few days later, their performance in the Philippines showed they meant business. Despite securing qualification, the Southeast Asian country won the 10-seater mixed 200m world title, sending a warning to the rest of the field.
The comments from their team leader after the win in Yichang is what other competitors should take notice of.

“We are amazed with the result,” Cinta Priendtisca Nayomi said.
“Honestly, we did not have the best preparations but still managed to do it.”
If this is what the Indonesians can achieve without the ideal preparations, imagine what they could do when all falls in place.
That said, The World Games is sure to bring the best out of all the participants, including hosts China.
At the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year, the men’s 1000m race saw Indonesia break Chinese dominance.
Heading to Chengdu, they will be hoping for more of the same in the mixed boats!
