Reigning Paralympic champion and multiple world gold medallist Peter Pal Kiss will lead Hungary’s six-strong team for Paris 2024.

Kiss made history at Tokyo 2020 when he became the youngest-ever paddler to win Paralympic gold courtesy of his triumph in the men’s KL1 at the age of just 18.

Since then, Kiss has captured world titles in 2021, 2022 and 2023 to take his tally to four after his win in 2019.

The 21-year-old will now seek to defend his Paralympic KL1 crown when he competes at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium next month.

Katalin Varga, who won bronze in the women’s KL2 at Tokyo 2020, is also in the squad along with Rio 2016 KL1 silver medallist Robert Suba.

The other Hungarian representatives in Paris will be Tibor Kiss, Nikoletta Molnar and Dalma Boldizsar.

Katalin Varga Paracanoe Szeged 2024

"A week and a half ago, I would have said they weren't nervous,” Hungary’s Paracanoe coach Botond Hajdu told the Hungarian Canoe Federation.

"But as we watched the Paralympic finals together in Szeged, I could already feel the adrenaline kicking in and yesterday's swearing-in ceremony it was clear that this was already 'about something'.

“They know it's coming, but they're in a good mood, calm and focused."

Peter Pal Kiss was hampered by injuries at the beginning of the year but is now ready to compete in Paris.

"I think everyone is looking forward to it, that's what we've been preparing for a long time,” said the four-time world champion.

“I've had more liberated weeks since the selection, I don't have any injuries, the training is going well.

“I had tougher training sessions than before the selection, and in the final rush we want to pack everything we can into the basket.

“Now we're practicing the tracks and starts, and in the last week and a half we're resting for the race."
