International World Games Association (IWGA) President Jose Perurena added his name to the International Canoe Federation’s commemorative boat during his visit to Budapest, Hungary.

Mr Perurena was invited to see the ICF’s new headquarters which officially opened its doors last month.

It was a special visit for Mr Perurena who previously served as ICF President from 2008 until 2021.

Patxi, as he is affectionately known in paddle sport circles, became an ICF Honorary President after Thomas Konietzko took the reins in 2021.

During his visit to the ICF headquarters, Mr Perurena met with staff before signing a commemorative golden boat which was made to mark the organisation’s 100th anniversary in 2024.

“It was a great pleasure to visit the ICF’s new headquarters in the fantastic city of Budapest,” said Mr Perurena.

“I was really impressed with the new offices underlining the ambitions of the federation which continues to go from strength to strength under the leadership of my good friend Thomas Konietzko.

“I was also honoured to sign the golden boat amongst the names of such incredible athletes.”
