Anti-doping and educational seminars for athletes and coaches were held at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Sprint Talent Identification Programme (TIP) camp in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
The camp took place from July 12 to 21 at the Regatta Course Plovdiv, alongside the 2024 ICF Canoe Sprint Junior and U23 World Championships.
The International Testing Agency (ITA) conducted activities, where participants were briefed about clean sport and its importance.
ITA ambassador Florence Schelling was in charge of the presentation, which included videos on collecting samples and more.
Sebastian Cuattrin of Brazil, Csaba Szanto of Hungary and Nichita Sergan of Romania led the camp on behalf of the ICF, with many campers performing well at the World Championships.
Among them, Mukhammadi Rajabov of Tajikistan reached the junior final in the men’s canoe single 500m and canoe single 1000m, finishing fourth in the latter.
The Vietnamese duo of Hong Thai Nguyen and Thi Huong Diep were impressive, finishing ninth in the women’s U23 canoe double 500m final.
Coaches and athletes from Venezuela, Guatemala, Guam, Tajikistan, Georgia, Sao Tome and Principe, Paraguay, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Peru took part in the camp.
Education of coaches was once again prioritised, with explainers on training programmes, high-performance, and updating them on the role of technology in sport.
“One more TIP camp has successfully finalised in Plovdiv,” ICF Vice President Cecilia Farias said.
“We are often consulted if we identify success factors. And yes, we do.
“Success has plenty of definitions. But simply, success is for us the reunion of young women and men, and the most experienced coaches sharing knowledge and expertise and creating the enthusiasm and commitment that brings athletes to the podium of the major ICF events.
“The number of athletes that participated at the ICF TIP camps and qualified for the Olympic Games are proof of success in sport and in their lives.”
