The International Paralympic Committee is calling for nominations to join the IPC Athletes’ Council, an important elected body that will represent the interests of the athlete community.

Elections to the IPC Athletes’ Council will take place at this year’s Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The IPC said the group of 12 current and retired Paralympians will be the voice of current, future and retired Paralympic athletes within the Paralympic Movement, in the strategic direction of the IPC, and to support athletes both on and off the field of play.

Paracanoe is one of the newest but also one of the fastest growing sports on the Paralympic programme. The sport made its debut in Rio in 2016, with six medal events, and will expand to nine medal events in Tokyo with the addition of the vaá category.

All prospective candidates must be nominated by their National Paralympic Committee, and applications close on Friday, April 2. The ICF urges NPC’s to consider nominating athletes to this very important council, to ensure our sport has a strong athlete voice at an international level.
