The International Canoe Federation will hold talks with all stakeholders with a view to relocating canoe events planned for Russia this year, and to follow the IOC recommendations in terms of using flags and anthem.

ICF President Thomas Konietzko pledged the support of the international paddling community to the Ukrainian canoeing family during a telephone conversation with Ukraine Canoe Federation President, Igor Slivinsky, on Friday morning.

He offered the President on behalf of the canoe family all the help that is needed and stressed that in these difficult times the canoe family will stand together.

Mr Konietzko said the ICF stood ready to help in any way possible Ukrainian athletes, coaches and officials caught up in the conflict with Russia.

"Based on the offers of help from some of our national federations, I informed him that if affected athletes need support in any way, we will help them and can provide if needed accommodation in several European countries," Mr Konietzko said.

He also announced his intention to discuss the reallocation of the competitions awarded to Russia and the implementation of the IOC's recommendations at the upcoming board meeting.

The ICF has three events planned for Russia in 2022 – a SUP world cup in Moscow in July, and two canoe sprint Super Cups in Barnaul and Moscow in August.

The ICF board is due to meet at the end of March.
