Charlotte Henshaw saw off her British rivals to remain the dominant force in Paracanoe as she captured two gold medals at the Paddle Europe Sprint Championships in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal. 

The triple Paralympic champion overcame Hope Gordon to secure the women’s VL3 crown before getting the better of Emma Wiggs to top another British one-two in the women’s KL1. 

David Phillipson added to a brilliant day for Great Britain with another gold, while there was also success for Hungary’s Peter Kiss, AIN-A paddler Aleksandra Dupik, Georgia’s Serhii Yemelianov and AIN-B paddler Ilya Taupianets.

Henshaw got her first gold of the day in the women’s VL3 as she powered to a European best time of 53.492. 

She did enough to hold off defending champion Hope who came away with silver after clocking 53.155, while France’s Elea Charvet earned bronze in 57.931. 

There was more delight for Henshaw in the women’s KL2 as she defended her title in 48.181. 

Wiggs, who was back competing in kayak for the first time since her return from injury, secured silver in 51.070. 

Hungary’s Katalin Varga bagged bronze in 51.070. 

Great Britain were also celebrating gold in the men’s KL2 as Phillipson triumphed in 41.842. 

Italy’s Christian Volpi clocked 42.577 for silver, while Austria’s Markus Swoboda finished in 43.032 for bronze. 

Peter Kiss had it easy in the men's KL1

There was a Hungarian one-two in the men’s KL1 final as Peter Kiss defeated Robert Suba. 

It was an absorbing battle between the two as Kiss cliched gold in 46.197 to retain the title. 

Suba had to settle for silver in 46.928 as France’s Remy Boulle crossed in 47.462 for bronze. 

AIN-A paddler Dupik was crowned European champion in the women’s KL1 in a time of 59.058. 

Italy’s Viktoryia Shablova picked up the other medal on offer, sealing silver in 1:12.982. 

Georgia’s Yemelianov came out on top in the men’s KL3 final as he stormed to victory in 40.129. 

The silver went to Czechia’s Vojtech Prochazka in 41.314, while Spain’s Juan Valle secured bronze in 41.819. 

AIN-B paddler Taupianet added European gold to his world title after finishing in a winning time of 1:00.646. 

The silver went to AIN-A paddler Arthur Chuprov in 1:01.906, while Germany’s Moritz Berthold claimed bronze in 1:05.976.
