Germany continued their sensational form in the women’s category as the Spanish men’s team got their revenge over Italy at the 2025 European Canoe Association Canoe Polo European Championships in Avranches, France.

A few weeks after the intense victory at The World Games Chengdu 2025, the German women’s team defended their European title, with a dominant 6-2 win over the Netherlands.

Nele Schmalenbach, who scored in the final against world champions New Zealand in China, starred with a hat-trick against the Dutch.

Skipper Svenja Schaeper scored a brace, and Leonie Wagner bagged one as the Germans showed their might.

The women in Oranje, however, can be proud as they added a European silver to their first-ever bronze medal at The World Games.

The French, who gave it their all in the semi-finals against Germany, settled for bronze, beating Spain 5-2.

In the men’s final, Spain, after losing to Italy in the quarterfinals of The World Games, showed incredible resilience to secure continental glory.

The nail-biting final was level at 2-2 at the end of regular time, but Antonio Romero Mesa’s eagle eyes found Samuel Pardavilla Lorenzo for the golden goal victory.

Angel Gordo Herrero and Alejandro Casal Da Silva scored for Spain earlier, while Andrea Silvio Costagliola and Fabrizio Massa found the back of the net for Italy.

The French, once again, had to be content with a bronze medal, with a 5-3 win over Switzerland.

However, the hosts had their fortunes changed in the U21 men’s tournament. They edged Germany 3-2, thanks to two goals from Etienne Lepvraud and one from Nielsen Ruas as Spain took bronze with a 2–1 win over Italy.

In the women’s U21 final, the Spaniards added their second title of the tournament. Up against France in the final, Marta Canosa Maceiras was the hero for Spain with two goals.

Raquel Calvente Reboll and Chiara Perez Dikuasa also slotted one each as they won 4-1.

The Netherlands, who lost 5-0 to France in the semi-finals, bounced back to clinch bronze after a 3-1 win over Germany.
