France’s Nicolas Gestin showcased his Olympic pedigree at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom Ranking Race in Ivrea, Italy.
With less than a month to go before the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup Series begins, Gestin looked in sensational form as he cruised to men’s canoe gold.
Italian paddlers controlled the podium across the men and women’s kayak events as Marta Bertoncelli claimed gold in the women’s C1.
Agata Spagnol and Xabier Ferrazzi continued the home success by securing victories in the women and men’s kayak finals, respectively.
Giovanni De Gennaro secured Italy’s fourth gold of the event, powering to victory in the men’s kayak cross.
Switzerland’s Alena Marx captured gold in the women’s kayak cross to complete an impressive hat-trick of medals after earlier silver and bronze finishes.

Two-time Olympian Bertoncelli kicked off a successful competition for the host nation, as she captured gold in the women’s C1 in 105.67.
Slovenian’s Eva Lin Hocevar took silver in 109.53 as Marx rounded off the podium in 110.34.
France’s Gestin took victory in the men’s C1 in 90.93 as the Olympic gold medallist held off Italian paddlers Martino Barzon in 96.63 and Raffaello Ivaldi in 97.36.
In the women’s K1, Spagnol powered to gold in 104.11 ahead of world champion Marx who secured silver in 104.67.
Dutch paddler Lena Teunissen completed the podium in 105.92.
Junior world champion Ferrazzi topped the podium in 87.85, finishing ahead of fellow youngster Michelle Pistoni in 89.13, and Swiss Olympian Martin Dougood in 90.06.
De Gennaro topped the men’s kayak cross podium, as Slovenia’s Ziga Lin Hocevar placed second and Switzerland’s Nicolas Fehlmann placed third.
Marx captured her first gold of the event, completing a triple medal haul.
The Swiss paddler placed above Italy’s Francesca Malaguti and Slovenia’s Eva Lin Hocevar.
