The International Canoe Federation has confirmed the 2017 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships will be moved to San Juan, Argentina following the completion of two successful World Cups this September.

The decision to reallocate the venue from the Rio 2016 Canoe Slalom Olympic Course was taken by the ICF Board of Directors following the late cancellation of this season’s scheduled freestyle world cup.

This cancellation, combined with the proven ability of the Argentinian Federation to organise a world-class competition, led the ICF Canoe Freestyle Committee to propose the change of venue for next season’s prestigious event.

ICF Canoe Freestyle chair, Lluis Rabaneda, said:

“After concerns following the cancelation of the 2016 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup in Brazil the ICF Canoe Freestyle Committee received an excellent proposal from the Argentinian Federation. It was then decided to propose the switch to the ICF Board of Directors who voted unanimously to accept the proposal.

"Consequently, the Argentinian National Federation will host the 2017 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships in San Juan, Argentina."

Provisional dates for this event are 21st to 26th November 2017.
