British canoeist Mallory Franklin is the new European Champion in women's canoe and Czech paddler Vit Prindiš won in men's kayak event on the final day of the championships in Pau, France.

24-year-old Franklin produced a superb run in the women's canoe final, finishing more than 10 seconds ahead of Nuria Vilarrubla from Spain, and was more than 15 seconds ahead of teammate Kimberley Woods.

Franklin has a great history on the venue in Pau. She won at a world cup race here in France and also won the world championship title in 2017.

"It was a really good run. I really enjoyed it. From the start I said I will go for it and try really hard and it came off," Franklin said.

"It's really good. I've actually won every international I've done here. Apparently I can race here quite well."

In a tough men's kayak final Czech Vit Prindiš showed the best run to win the gold medal and his first senior European Champion title. He already has two silver medals from the 2014 European Championships in Vienna and 2018 European Championships in Prague.

"I am super happy, because I had four really good runs here in Pau. I did not do any mistake. I worked through my plan," Prindis said.

"You never know here in Pau, because the water is really tricky. I am really happy that I managed it and that I have my first title in seniors, after a few years when I was second."

Dariusz Popiela from Poland won the silver medal, his second individual silver medal at European Championships, and young French kayaker Quentin Burgi won the bronze medal to much delight of the crowd on the river bank.

Czech Republic was the most successful team of the championships with three gold medals and one bronze medal. Great Britain won two gold medals, one silver and one bronze, while Slovenia finished third on the medals table with two gold and one silver medal.

France concluded the championships with one gold, two silver and one bronze medal. Germany had two silver and one bronze medal, while Spain and Poland each won one silver medal at this year's European Championships.

The 2020 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships will be held at the Olympic course in London - Lee Valley.
