As the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom World Cup series enters its third weekend on the bounce, paddlers arrive in Augsburg, Germany chasing top honours.

There was endless drama in Prague last weekend as Krejci starred on home waters, Fox did the double and Gestin proved his pedigree.

Now, Augsburg’s Eiskanal - 1972 Olympic venue - will play host for the upcoming World Cup, running from June 12 to 14.

1. Funk hunting for home honours

With 31 World Cup medals to her name, Ricarda Funk will be eager to remind everyone why she has been one of slalom's leading figures for more than a decade. After missing the opening World Cup event in Ljubljana, the German returned in Prague and narrowly missed the podium in the women's kayak, finishing fifth. She bounced back in kayak cross, claiming medals in both the individual and head-to-head formats. Now, with the World Cup arriving on home waters in Augsburg, Funk will be determined to make the most of home advantage and add to her remarkable medal tally. Could a 32nd World Cup medal be waiting around the next bend?

2. Is Woods set for another Augsburg double?

Great Britain's Kimberley Woods made history at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup Finals in Augsburg last year. Before her golden double in the women's canoe and kayak events, Woods had never won a World Cup race in women's kayak. By the end of the weekend, she had not only claimed two victories but also secured the overall World Cup title. Now, Woods returns to Augsburg sitting fourth in the overall women's canoe standings, level on points with France's Marjorie Delassus. With fond memories of the Eiskanal, the Brit will be aiming to finish the first half of the season on a high.

3. Seventh straight gold on Fox’s horizon

It comes as little surprise that Olympic champion Jessica Fox has claimed six medals on the Eiskanal - all of them gold. Strong performances in Ljubljana and Prague have put Fox at the top of the women's kayak standings, despite returning from surgery that kept her sidelined for nine months. Yet champions find a way back, and Fox has wasted no time reasserting her dominance. Can anyone end her perfect record in Augsburg, or will the Eiskanal once again prove to be Fox's happy hunting ground?

4. Hocevar and Gestin battle to be continued

As the third World Cup stop gets underway in Augsburg, the spotlight falls on the growing rivalry between France's Titouan Gestin and Slovenia's Ziga Lin Hocevar. Hocevar has been one of the standout athletes of the season, leading the overall men's canoe and kayak cross standings while bringing plenty of emotion and confidence to every race. After a double victory on home waters in Ljubljana, the Slovenian narrowly missed out on a C1 medal in Prague following a costly penalty. Meanwhile, Olympic champion Gestin arrives full of momentum after claiming C1 gold in Prague, denying Hocevar back-to-back victories. With youth and ambition facing experience and pedigree, Augsburg sets the stage for the next chapter in one of Canoe Slalom's most exciting rivalries.

5. Germany seeking dominance on home waters

With Olympic medallists Funk, Noah Hegge, Andrea Herzog, Sideris Tasiadis, leading the line for the German national team, the host nation will have a total of 14 athletes on the start line. Ranging from experienced winners to young hopefuls, the Germans will be full of confidence heading into a weekend of racing. Across all races over the past two weekends, German athletes have taken a total of two medals, both coming courtesy of Ricarda Funk in Prague. Funk took silver in the women’s kayak cross individual and bronze in the kayak cross, while Hegge reached the men’s K1 finals in Prague, placing 5th. The pair will carry the torch for the German national team, and with preparations nearing competition in Augsburg, German paddlers will be hoping to put on a show for their home fans.
