Europe’s finest Canoe Freestyle athletes are set to battle it out for podium places when they meet at the 2016 ECA European Canoe Freestyle Championships in Germany, Plattling from the 26-28 May.

The championships will be held on the on Isar River just over a one-hour drive northeast from the Bavarian capital, Munich.

With over 110 athletes spanning 14 European nations the competition is set to be a tense and exhilarating feast of world-class freestyle.

The Isar River wave is a renowned hotspot for freestyle and has competition pedigree after hosting the 2011 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships.  

The initial rounds comprise of two-45-second rides with the better of the two efforts from each athlete determining their position.

The top 20 athletes from the preliminary round will then progress to the quarterfinal stage, starting in reverse order of the previous results; this will then be halved to 10 for the semifinals and five for the subsequent final.

In the final the top five athletes will be afforded the luxury of the best-of-three opportunities to impress as they aim for gold.
