The Development Environmental and Circular Knowledge (DECK) Project, supported by the International Canoe Federation, is entering its next phase as it seeks to collect data from athletes.
The Italian Canoe and Kayak Federation (FICK), which is leading the DECK Project, is inviting its athletes to complete a questionnaire.
This innovative project aims to analyze the environmental impact of sports activities and promote sustainable practices.
FICK insists participation is crucial for the success of the project and for a more sustainable future of sport as the organisation urged all clubs to disseminate the questionnaire.
“The questionnaire is an essential component of this monitoring process and requires the collaboration of all athletes to collect meaningful and representative data,” a statement from FICK read.
“The analysis of the data collected, conducted anonymously by the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, will help to outline a complete mapping of sustainable attitudes and practices in the sports context.
“These results will be used to develop new strategies and improvements in the sector, in order to reduce the environmental impact of sporting events.”
FICK is working in collaboration with the ICF on the DECK Project along with the Institute of Management of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, the National Federations of Croatia, Greece and Slovenia and the School of Sport and Health.
The primary objective of the project will be to develop and implement a database of good operational and governance practices.
This will be done with the creation of guidelines for the management of canoeing sports events and an operational tool for measuring the environmental sustainability of those competitions.
The project, which was launched in 2023, will last 30 months, culminating with the application of the final protocol at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships that will take place from August 20 to 24, 2025.
