The Pan American Canoe Federation (COPAC) has announced plans to conduct a four-month Canoe Sprint development course for regional coaches.

The online course is scheduled to start on March 4 and end on July 19 followed by a seven to 10-day in-person internship.

It is part of the Continental Association's strategy to raise the technical quality of the sport as the new Olympic cycle begins.

The course is aimed at coaches with basic, intermediate or advanced skill levels and seeks to qualify professionals based on up-to-date institutional guidelines, promoting sustainability and gender equality.

The programme — taught in Spanish — will include 64 hours of online classes, with two weekly meetings and will cost $400 ($100/month), plus transportation and lodging expenses for on-site training.

Interested coaches can submit their applications by letter of recommendation from National Federations by February 10.

A range of topics, including initiation to canoeing, training physiology, training systematisation, kayak technical development model and canoe technical development model, will be covered during the course.

A total of 20 sports are on offer initially, with possible future editions based on demand.

National Federations should ensure gender balance while registering for the course.
