Great Britain’s Emma Christie and Kerry Christie were among the winners again in Veles as the classic titles were decided at the International Canoe Federation Wildwater Canoeing World Cup on Sunday.
After taking the women’s C2 sprint crown yesterday, the Christie sisters backed it up by winning the classic gold.
They triumphed in 19:33.55, beating Czechia’s Ela Strechova and Alexandra Plachtova and France’s Emma Lacoste and Margot Beziat who claimed silver and bronze respectively.
Italy’s Cecilia Panato was also on top of the podium for a second day running after capturing the women’s K1 crown in 16:37.07.
Great Britain’s Kerry Christie was second with Mathilde Serena Rosa joining fellow Italian Panato on the podium in third.
Louis Passernig of France overcame the Italian challenge of Giacomo Bianchetti and Tommaso Mapelli to clinch the men’s C1 title.
The Frenchman finished in a winning time of 16:53.54 as Bianchetti took silver and Mapelli earned bronze.
Belgium picked up their first gold of the weekend courtesy of Leo Montulet’s triumph in the men’s K1.
Montulet took victory in 15:07.87, edging out Germany’s Andreas Heilinger who collected silver, while Switzerland’s Linus Bolzern came away with a bronze medal.
Katarina Kopunova delivered gold for Slovakia after winning the women’s C1 final in 19:13.28.
She got the better of the in-form Panato, while France’s Beziat sealed bronze.
France’s other gold medal of the day was secured by Raphael Quenault and Jean Chevallier having crossed in 19:05.48.
Mapelli and Bianchetti picked up silver, with Czechia's Vojtech Stybnar and Alva Beier bagged bronze.
