Lisa Carrington has been named in New Zealand’s squad for next month’s International Canoe Federation Canoe Sprint World Cups, marking what is set to be her final appearances on the global stage before the birth of her first child.
The eight-time Olympic gold medallist is set to compete at the opening World Cup in Szeged, Hungary from May 8 to 10, before racing again in Brandenburg, Germany from May 14 to 17.
With Carrington expecting her baby in September, the Brandenburg event is due to be her last international race in 2026 as she looks forward to a new chapter in her life.
The New Zealander has expressed her desire to reach the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.

Paris 2024 gold medallists Alicia Hoskin and Tara Vaughan have not been named in the squad.
Hoskin underwent surgery earlier this year to treat a worsening cervical rib in her shoulder that was compressing a nerve, and she has yet to return to action.
Lucy Matehaere and Greer Morely have been selected, as well as Paris Olympians Kurtis Imrie, Grant Clancy and Hamish Legarth in the men’s team.
Matehaere was a new addition to the women’s K4 boat last season.
The back-to-back World Cups mark the start of the two-year qualification pathway toward Los Angeles 2028.
