Last year it brought us excitement, passion and frenzied racing, and this year the International Canoe Federation is promising an even better Super Cup canoe sprint competition when competition returns to Linyi, China.

The Super Cup format was unveiled in 2018, with a warm-up event in Linyi followed by the major event in Barnaul, Russia. The world’s best male and female canoe and kayak paddlers were invited to compete for generous prizemoney over the exciting new race distance of 350 metres.

The 2019 ICF Super Cup will be held in Linyi on September 18/19, with more details on the format to be announced shortly. Competitors have been promised an event every bit as exciting as last year, and a chance to build on the wonderful friendships that were forged during the 2018 events.

Athletes will earn ranking points from last year’s ICF canoe sprint world championships and this year’s two ICF canoe sprint world cups. The top eight paddlers in men’s and women’s K1 and C1 will be invited to Linyi, with several wildcards also on offer.

Prizemoney will once again be on offer, and the event will be shown live on several television networks around the globe.

Last year Linyi hosted the pre-super cup, while Barnaul hosted the super cup. Huge crowds lined the banks of the Siberian waterway to see France’s Maxime Beaumont win the men’s K1, New Zealand’s Caitlin Ryan the women’s K1, Canada’s Laurence Vincent-Lapointe the women’s C1 and Czech Martin Fuksa triumph in the men’s C1.

The 2018 Super Cup was raced over 350 metres, and also included mixed K1 and C1 races.
