The Uzbekistan Rowing and Canoe Federation, in collaboration with the International Canoe Federation, conducted a Canoe Sprint coaching seminar from April 7 to 8.
In 2024, the Uzbek city of Samarkand hosted the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, the first time the flagship event was held in Asia, with a development camp held on the sidelines.
The Central Asian nation has kept the momentum going this year with a focus on education led by ICF expert Alexandr Nikonorov.
Around 80 coaches from across the country participated in the seminar as Nikonorov explored topics including aerobics, endurance, and scientific methods coaches can adapt.
The interactive session also touched upon the development of power as a factor uniting all aspects of training and the strategy of increasing power and intensity during the year among others.
The ICF issued certificates to 52 of the participants, with the National Federation agreeing to continue promotional activities for paddle sports in the country.
“We are proud to say that the Uzbekistan Rowing and Canoe Federation hosted an international scientific and practical seminar in Samarkand from April 7 to 8 with ICF specialist Alexandr Nikonorov as the key speaker,” Bobur Yusupov, First Chairman of Uzbekistan Rowing and Canoe Federation, said.
“Attendees included federation representatives, national canoe team coaches, and regional paddle sports specialists, totalling around 80 participants.
“Mr Nikonorov shared innovative training methods, covering strategies for power and intensity, the role of strength training in endurance development, and other essential coaching insights.
“The seminar organised at a high level by the ICF, concluded with Mr Nikonorov addressing coaches’ questions on training processes.
“Fifty-two coaches received ICF certificates, gaining valuable knowledge to enhance the preparation of Uzbekistan’s national canoe athletes for global competition.”
