Ones to Watch

Marie Nemcova (CZE): With the World Championships back in Czechia first time in 19 years, the home paddlers will eager to impress. Among those is Nemcova who is a strong favourite to top the podium in Ceske Budejovice. Nemcova is aiming to win a third successive world title in the women’s K1 sprint where she will face competition from the likes of fellow Czechs Kristina Novosadova, Klara Vankova and Anna Retkova.

Nejc Znidarcic (SLO): A six time winner of the men’s K1 sprint, Znidarcic will be determined to add to his impressive tally. There will be extra motivation for Znidarcic as he aims to gain revenge over compatriot Anze Urankar who beat him to the title last year and is the two-time defending champion. Znidarcic has shown great form this season, winning the European crown, and will be gunning for gold in Ceske Budejovice.

Nicolas Sauteur (FRA): The Frenchman will be looking to pick up from where he left off in Banja Luka in July where he captured five golds at the ICF Wildwater Canoeing World Cup, including C1 sprint and C2 sprint along with Theo Viens. He will lead a strong French contingent including Charles Ferrion who is the European champion in the men’s C1 sprint. Last year, Sauteur finished second behind Czechia’s Matej Vanek who will seek to make home advantage count in his quest to defend his crown.
