Marian Sârbu was elected as the new Chair of the ICF Canoe Ocean Racing Committee at its Congress in Antalya in November 2024.  

He beat competition from South Africa’s Colin Simpkins in the election.   

The master athlete has a background in sports therapy, including as part of the Romanian Olympic canoe team.   

Living in Belgium currently, the International Technical Official has also served as a police officer in Romania from August 2003 to March 2012.   

Career in sports administration 

2017-2021 - President of the Technical Committee for Canoe Marathon at the Romanian Canoe Federation  

2021-2024 - Advisor for Technical Committee for Canoe Sprint and Canoe Marathon at Koninklijk Belgisch Kano Verbond  

2021-present - ICF Canoe Ocean Racing Committee member  

2024-present - Chair of the ICF Canoe Ocean Racing Committee  

Sports practised  

Sârbu is an active master paddler in Canoe Ocean Racing, Canoe Sprint, Canoe Marathon and Downriver Racing.  

He is a member of the Koninklijke Cano Club Mechelen in Belgium.
