The Development Environmental and Circular Knowledge (DECK) project has announced the dates for three new webinars that will focus on the role of sports in driving sustainable practices.
The first is called Guidelines for the Environmental Management of Canoeing and Kayaking Events and is scheduled to be held on January 28, from 15:00 to 16:00 CET.
This webinar will offer advice and solutions for reducing the environmental impact of events, starting with a 20-minute presentation by Professor Tiberio Daddi and Matteo Semeraro of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna.
That will be followed by a presentation from Anna Merlini of the Italian Canoe and Kayak Federation (FICK) and Jacob Marusic from the Slovenian Kayak Federation (KZS), sharing their experiences in implementing the guidelines to improve the environmental performance of their events.
The second webinar is Understanding the Environmental Impact of Sports Events Through Life Cycle Assessment and will shed light on the different stages of an event from raw material use to waste disposal, enabling organisers to identify key areas for improvement.
Scheduled for February 19 from 15:00 to 16:00 CET, Daddi and Semeraro will explain the importance of calculating the carbon footprint and overall environmental impact of events, followed by a presentation from Georgia Griva, Project Manager of the Hellenic Canoe-Kayak, SUP, Surfing Federation (HCKF).
The third webinar is named Sustainability Rating Tool to Greener Competitions and will take place on March 26 from 15:00 to 16:00 CET and will be an introduction to the Sustainability Rating Tool (SRT), a cutting-edge resource developed to help sports organisations assess and enhance the sustainability of their events.
Daddi and Semeraro will be joined by Sandro Peggion from SdS in presenting the functionalities of the SRT after which Ivana Sundov, Project Manager of the Croatian Canoe Federation (CCF), will talk about how the tool helped evaluate event sustainability and prioritise improvements effectively.
