The European Canoe Association has confirmed the hosts for several European Championships in 2026.

Montemor-o-Velho in Portugal has been awarded the 2026 ECA Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe European Championships while the 2026 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships is heading to Ivrea in Italy.

Epinal in France will organise the 2026 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships while Lieksa in Finland will welcome paddlers for the 2026 ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships.

Slalom stars will be visiting Krakow for the flagship continental event in 2027. The Polish city hosted Canoe Slalom races at the 2023 European Games.

The battle for the European marathon titles in 2027 will take place in Mirandela, Portugal.

“This recognition reaffirms the quality and excellence of previous organisations, consolidating Portugal as one of the countries in which both the European Canoeing Association and the International Canoeing Federation trust the most for the holding of international events over the past two decades,” a statement from the Portuguese Canoe Federation (FPC) read.

“The organisation of international sports competitions has been a strategic bet of the FPC, bringing economic benefits to the country and reinforcing its national and international prestige.”

A range of topics including strategic plans and development programmes was discussed as the ECA Board of Directors met in Ponte de Lima, Portugal, this week.

Among them was also the agenda for the 17th Ordinary Congress of the ECA, scheduled to take place on March 29 in Budapest, Hungary.

This year is set to see the ECA Headquarters move from Zagreb in Croatia to French capital Paris, following the ECA Board of Directors’ approval of the proposal and the cooperation with the French Canoe Federation.

During the visit, two-time Olympic medallist and multiple world and European Canoe Sprint champion Fernando Pimenta and the FPC guided the ECA delegation on a tour of the Clube Nautico de Ponte de Lima.
