Paddle UK CEO Ashley Metcalfe has expressed his delight over UK Sport's support for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic cycle.
UK Sport, the government body in charge of allocating funds for British sporting bodies, announced a record £330 million investment into Olympic and Paralympic sports this week, aspiring for a top-five medals table position in LA.
Paddle UK's World Class Performance Programmes is expected to receive £16.9 million, split across three disciplines, over the next four years.
The UK Sport funding will see £12.55 million allocated to the LA28 Olympic programme and £4.35 million allocated to the LA28 Paralympic programme.
“We are delighted that UK Sport will continue to support our World Class Performance Programmes for the next Games cycle,” Metcalfe said.
“We never take it for granted, particularly when money within the country and sector is tighter than ever.”
Great Britain enjoyed a superb Olympic Games in Paris, with Adam Burgess and Joesph Clarke winning silver medals in the C1 and kayak cross, respectively.
Among women, Kimberley Woods won two bronze medals in the K1 and kayak cross.
The Paralympics saw British athletes top the medals table for a third successive Games, with four gold and four silver medals.
Charlotte Henshaw did the double in the women's KL2 and VL3, while Laura Sugar defended her KL3 crown.
Emma Wiggs won women's VL2 gold before finishing behind Henshaw in the KL2 final while Hope Gordon finished second in the VL3.
The other two silver medals were won by Jack Eyers in the men's VL3 and Dave Phillipson in the men's KL2.
“Our agreement allows us to build on our successful Paris 2024 Games, in which slalom and Paracanoe won 12 medals,” Metcalfe continued.
“While we have seen a reduction in our Olympic funding, UK Sport has confirmed their faith in our pragmatic approach to change, particularly within our flatwater programmes in Nottingham, to ensure we reach our milestone for LA 2028.
“Thank you for the continual support from the National Lottery players who enable us to continue to strive for our LA ambitions.”
