Mateusz Zuchora gained revenge over teammate Mateusz Borgiel as Poland completed a clean sweep of medals in the men’s C1 long distance at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Marathon World Cup in Brandenburg.
After finishing one place behind Borgiel in the men’s C1 short distance, Zuchora ensured the top two were reversed in the long-distance race.
Zuchora crossed the finish line in 1:57:07.290, edging out Borgiel by less than one second.
It was a Polish one-two-three as Eryk Wilga pulled away from Ukraine’s Denys Davydov and France’s Thomas Dubois Dunilac to take bronze.
Ukraine’s Olena Tsyhankova completed a women’s C1 double, following up her short-distance success yesterday with gold in the long distance today.
Tsyhankova triumphed in 1:29:49.096 as Germany’s Annette Wehrmann picked up silver and Czechia’s Alzbeta Veverkova earned bronze.
There was also further delight for multiple world champion Vanda Kiszli of Hungary.
Kiszli captured the women’s K1 long-distance crown, adding to her short-distance title after winning in 2:09:18.613.
Panna Csepe ensured a Hungarian one-two as she secured silver, with Spain’s Irati Osa Irureta sealing bronze.
Denmark’s Philip Knudsen was the other winner in the senior categories on the final day of competition.
The Dutch paddler claimed men’s K1 gold in 2:14:17.766, beating France’s Jeremy Candy and Sweden's Joakim Lindberg who ranked second and third respectively.
