Spain’s Maialen Chourraut is showing no signs of slowing up as she celebrated her 41st birthday with gold in Pau, France.
Just one day after turning 41, the Rio 2016 Olympic champion sealed top spot in the women’s kayak cross at the International Pyrenees Cup.
Chourraut got the better of home favourite and Paris 2024 silver medallist Angele Hug who came second, while fellow Spaniard Jana Planes bagged bronze at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom World Ranking event.
France’s Gael Adisson denied Spain another kayak cross gold when he defeated Manuel Ochoa to seal top spot in the men’s event, while France’s Leo Vuitton clinched bronze.
It was a French one-two in the men’s C1 final with Jules Bernardet taking the title, pipping fellow countryman Martin Cornu by just 0.26. Spain’s Miquel Trave took bronze.
Poland’s Klaudia Zwolinska, the Olympic silver medallist, came out on top in the women’s K1 final. Dutch paddler Lena Teunissen finished second, while Czechia’s Katerina Bekova sealed bronze.
Sam Leaver of Great Britain emerged victorious in the men’s K1 final. The silver medal went to Czechia’s Jakub Krejci, while France’s Anatole Delassus bagged bronze.
Tereza Kneblova clinched women’s C1 gold, overcoming France’s Angele Hug who placed second, while fellow Czech paddler Martina Satkova picked up bronze.
Pattaya, Thailand hosted back-to-back ICF Canoe Slalom World Ranking races ahead of its staging of the Asian Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships.
Chu-Han Chang struck gold in both events, firstly beating Ting-I Wu in a Chinese Taipei one-two in the women’s K1 final in the SEA Open, while China’s Yuhan Zou clinched bronze.
Japan’s Daisuke Neshime secured the men’s K1 crown, seeing off Chinese Taipei’s Shao-Hsuan Wu and compatriot Ryota Imagawa who secured silver and bronze respectively.
Australia’s Lachlan Bassett took the men’s C1 title as Uzbekistan’s Anvar Klevleev claimed silver and Kazakhstan’s Alexandr Kulikov picked up bronze.
There was a Thai winner in the women’s C1 as Atcharaporn Duanglawa sealed top spot. Kazakhstan’s Anastassiya Ananyeva finished second with Japan’s Haruka Okazaki earning bronze.
Chang delivered again in the Thailand Open, capturing the women’s K1 title again in Pattaya. China’s Zou was 0.72 behind Chang as she took silver, while Kazakhstan’s Yekaterina Tarantseva completed the podium with bronze.
Uzbekistan’s Pavel Eigel dashed Neshime’s hopes of another men’s K1 victory in Pattaya, beating the Japanese paddler by 0.69. The bronze medal went to Chain’s Xingzhou Ming.
There was further delight for Uzbekistan in the men’s C1 as Klevleev came out on top in the final. Thailand’s Piyanath Koetsuk and Kazakhstan’s Kulikov sealed silver and bronze, respectively.
Ananyeva won gold for Kazakhstan with success in the women’s C1. Japan’s Okazaki collected silver, while Thailand’s Duanglawa added another medal to her account with bronze.
