Argentina and Brazil topped the medals table in Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe, respectively, as the 2024 South American and Pan American Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe Championships concluded in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Organised by the Uruguayan Canoe Federation in Lake Calcagno, athletes from 15 countries across the Americas competed from November 13 to 16.
Argentina won the most medals in the Pan American and South American Canoe Sprint races.
With 25 gold medals, they were a cut above the rest in the first category, pipping second-placed Chile with four gold and third-placed Brazil with two.
In the South American Canoe Sprint competitions, the Argentinians doubled up with 50 gold medals, beating Brazil and Ecuador on nine and six, respectively.
Brazil won six gold medals in the Pan American Paracanoe races and was also the best nation in the South American Paracanoe competitions with five titles.
Chile came second overall in both categories, with two gold medals each while Canada and Argentina with one gold medal each were the third-best nation in the Pan American and South American Championships, respectively.

The tournament also saw the Pan American Canoe Federation (COPAC) hold a seminar for coaches, with support from the International Canoe Federation.
Cuban Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Serguey Torres Madrigal addressed the participants, sharing his experience as an athlete and trainer.
Joining him on the first day was Professor Evidio González Fonseca, Secretary and Technical Director of the Cuban Canoe Federation, who spoke about the evolution of the sport in Cuba.
On the second day of the seminar, Argentina's Diego Canepa gave presentations on “Technical and Regulatory Advances for Canoe in America”.
