Poland’s Tomasz Czaplicki capped off a birthday week to remember with a second K1 ICF Freestyle World Cup gold in Sort, Spain, on the weekend.
Czaplicki won gold in the opening freestyle world cup earlier in the week, celebrated his 30th birthday and won his second gold on Saturday.
The Pole took advantage of the surprise absence of two-time world champion, Dane Jackson, in the final, posting a score of 840 to beat C1 gold medallist, Frenchman Sebastien Devred, on 805, with 2017 World Champion, Joaquim Fontane of Spain, third on 540.
Zofia Tula made it a winning double for Poland on Saturday, winning the women’s K1 with 440 points on her second run.
Japan’s Hitomi Takaku and Finland’s Paula Varonen tied for second on 300 points.
Exciting French junior picked up a gold and silver medal on Saturday, finishing behind fellow Frenchman Devred in the men’s C1, with another Frenchman, Tom Lay, taking the bronze.
He then won the junior men’s final ahead of Argentina’s Valentin Betancourt, with Great Britain’s Harry Price taking the bronze.
It was also a big week for Great Britain World Champion, Ottilie Robinson-Shaw, who won her second junior women’s K1 gold on Saturday.
Robinson-Shaw finished well ahead of Spanish duo Ona Baro Regue and Arbolo Rafel Olivo.
Another Brit, Alex Edwards, also won his second gold for the week, taking the men’s squirt final ahead of Polish duo Bartosz Czauderna and Tomasz Czaplicki.
Hitomi Takaku headed a Japanese quinella in the women’s squirt final, finishing ahead of Yoshiko Suematsu and Poland’s Izabela Fidzinska.
