Slovenia's Simon Oven added the wildwater classic race to his earlier sprint title to lock away the K1 World Cup title on the River Lech in Bavaria on Sunday.

The River Lech, at least its section some 20 miles south of Augsburg, proved to be a fitting location for classic-races. On the fourth day of the 2017 World Cup season, more than 100 athletes tested their strength and endurance on a 4.8 kilometer stretch from the city of Landsberg north to Kaufering. Together with the well proven Olympic wildwater course at Augsburg, concluded DKV Vice-president Jens Perlwitz, the chief judge at this event, this could be a combination for further international and national competitions in wildwater racing.

The results of the competitions at these two locations were to be expected.  Oven won the classic-race in the K1M competition, and together with his first place in the sprint-race on the Muotha, managed to secure the World Cup victory. His teammate Nejc Znidarcic finished overall second-place after victories in the classic-race on the Muotha and in the sprint-race at Augsburg. Paul Graton (France) secured third place in the K1M section.

In his last international season Normen Weber (Germany) finished with second place in the C1M-ranking. Only in Augsburg he could secure a victory.  Ondrej Rolenc (Czech Republic) secured this World-Cup-title with first places in the other three races. With just one point behind Normen Weber, Frenchman Quentin Dazeur now ranks third in this years World Cup.

In the K1W-contest Melanie Mathys (Switzerland) was first in the two sprint-races and in the end also in the World-Cup-ranking. Claire Bren (France) has to be content with second place despite her two victories in the classic-races. Alke Overbeck (Germany) finished third in the overall ranking.

In the C1W-contest Cecilia Panato (Italy), Sabine Eichenberger (Switzerland) and Cindy Coat (France) finished first, second and third in the World Cup, with each one victory in individual races.

In the C2W-competition, Cecilia Panato also finished first with her sister with Cindy Coat / Manon Durand (France) und Sabrina Barm / Lea-Sophie Barth (Germany) on the places to follow.

In the C2M-competition two French teams – Stephane Santamaria and Quentin Dazeur plus Tony Debray and Louis Lapointe tied for first place with 192 World Cup points each.  Maks Franceskin and Simeon Hocevar (Slovenia) finished the season on rank three.

The winners of Sunday’s races as well as those in the World Cup were honored in an impressive medal-ceremony on the main square in the historic center of Landsberg.
