The Slovenian Canoe Federation (KZS) felicitated their athletes who won prestigious medals in 2024, with Eva Tercelj and Ziga Lin Hocevar being named women's and men's paddlers of the year, respectively.   

A total of 29 athletes from KZS won medals at the European and World Championships and the International Canoe Federation World Cups last year.  

This was the sixth time Tercelj won the award after claiming the honour in 2011, 2014, 2019, 2020, and 2021.  

The Canoe Slalom star was part of the gold-winning women's kayak team at the European Championships in Tacen, repeating her feat from 2017.  

The 32-year-old won her first-ever gold medal in kayak cross at the ICF World Cup in Augsburg and also won K1 silver and bronze medals at the World Cups in La Seu and Ivrea, respectively.  

Teenage sensation Hocevar had a season to remember, winning the individual and team golds at the European Championships at 17. 

He also got his first World Cup win in Augsburg and impressed by finishing second in the C1 overall standings. 

He also performed superbly at the Junior and U23 European and World Championships, with KZS naming him the best wildwater and junior athlete of the year. 

Anja Osterman and Mia Medved were named best female athletes in sprint, thanks to their silver in the kayak double 200m at the European Championships in Szeged. 

The best male sprint athlete was Anze Urankar, who defended his world titles in wildwater sprint canoeing and had memorable performances in Canoe Sprint.  

Naja Pinteric was once again named best female junior athlete of the year after becoming a world champion in kayak cross at the Junior World Championships in Liptovsky Mikulas. 

Maks Franceskin was named best coach for the second year in a row.
