Hosts Hungary topped the medal table at the European Canoe Association Canoe Sprint European Championships in Szeged.
A total of 20 medals were won by the Hungarian team including 10 golds, six silvers and four bronzes.
Canoe Sprint joined Paracanoe and Stand Up Paddling at the multi-discipline European Championships.
Adam Varga was among the Hungarian paddlers to triumph on home water, winning the men’s K1 500 title.
Anna Lucz also achieved home success on the opening day of Canoe Sprint finals, capturing the women’s K1 200 crown.
Poland also did well in Szeged with Justyna Iskrzycka winning the women’s K1 1000 title and Oleksii Koliadych claiming the European crown in the men’s C1 200.
Italy celebrated two golds with Samuele Burgo and Andrea Schera clinching the men’s K2 1000 title and Gabriele Casadei and Carlo Tacchini topping the podium in the men’s C2 1000.
Alena Nazdrova (AIN) won the women’s C1 500 title, while Portugal’s Iago Bebiano and Kevin Santos triumphed in the men’s K2 200.
On the penultimate day of competition, Hungary won six Canoe Sprint titles.
Tamara Csipes swept to the women’s K1 500 crown, finishing almost two seconds quicker than Denmark’s Emma Aastrand Jorgensen.
Bence Nadas and Sandor Totka won the men’s K2 500 title before Agnes Anna Kiss and Bianka Nagy were crowned European champions in the women’s C2 500.
Hungary also won the women’s K4 500 title as well as the women’s K2 1000 courtesy of Noemi Pupp and the women’s K2 200 thanks to Sara Fojt and Blanka Kiss and Lucz.
Other European champions were Romania’s Catalin Chirila in the men’s C1 1000, Moldova’s Serghei Tarnovschi in the men’s C1 500, Ukraine’s Oleksandr Zaitsev in the men’s K1 200 and Spain’s Antia Jacome and Maria Corbera in the women’s C2 200.
There was a shock in the men’s K1 1000 on the final day in Szeged when Aleh Yurenia (AIN) shocked Hungarian Balint Kopasz and Portugal's Fernando Pimenta.
Hungary did enjoy success when Balazs Adolf won the men’s C1 5000 title and Emese Kohalmi claimed the women’s K1 5000 gold.
Pimenta bounced back from his earlier disappointment to win the men’s K1 5000 crown, beating Varga and Denmark’s Mads Brandt Pedersen.
