There is a growing sense of excitement and anticipation for the Paris 2024 Olympics following the International Canoe Federation’s final technical inspection of the Canoe Sprint course for the Games. 

Toshi Furuya, Chair of the ICF Canoe Sprint Committee, visited Vaires-sur-Marne this week to inspect the Olympic venue and discuss preparations for Paris 2024. 

His visit comes with just two-and-a-half months to go until the Games officially open in the French capital where Canoe Sprint will make its 21st successive appearance at the Olympics. 

Canoe Sprint races will take place from August 6 to 10 following the staging of the Canoe Slalom competition from July 27 to August 5 at Vaires-sur-Marne. 

During his site visit, Mr Furuya met the Paris 2024 team led by Canoe and Paracanoe Sport Manager Cyril Nivel.

Mr Furuya was given a tour of the course where work on the large grandstand continues. 

He also discussed detailed daily plans including the sports presentation and approved the transition process when the venue will be adjusted from hosting rowing to canoeing. 

“Our venue inspection and discussions with Paris 2024 were very fruitful,” said Mr Furuya. 

“The preparations towards the Games are going very well – it’s on track. 

“A lot of important things such as facilities, technologies, sports presentation and services to the teams were discussed.

“Paris 2024 are doing a great job with the ICF to welcome teams. 

“It will be outstanding to have such huge numbers of spectators. 

“We will have more than 20,000 there. 

“We also had a good discussions about generating our sports presentation. 

“I am sure the sports presentation in Paris will make our spectators and the people watching on TV more excited and have more fun.” 

The ICF is also inspecting the Canoe Slalom course with the fine-tuning process set to be completed by May 20.
