Canoe Sprint star Aimee Fisher has confirmed she will give it one more shot at Olympic glory in Los Angeles four years from now, announcing her move to Hawke’s Bay to train for it.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games ended in disappointment for the 29-year-old after finishing fourth in the kayak single 500m final that saw compatriot and legend Lisa Carrington win gold.

It was hard to take, considering Fisher had bested Carrington in two International Canoe Federation World Cups in Szeged and Poznan, in the lead-up to the Games.

However, the 2021 world champion has decided to put the past behind her and is raring to go again, deciding to come back to her roots in the bid for Olympic gold.

“One last ride. This will be my final Olympic cycle and this time, I will do it with the village that raised me; I’ve moved back to Hawke’s Bay, where it all began,” she said on Instagram.

“Thank you to everyone who became extended family in Auckland during the last 10 years. Forever grateful.”

The 2024 ICF Hangzhou Super Cup in October this year saw Fisher return to the podium, winning bronze in the mixed kayak double 500m.

Along with Samuele Burgo of Italy, she was seen enjoying racing at the Fuyang Water Sports Centre.

Speaking to the ICF in China, Fisher explained how hard it was for her to process everything that happened in Paris, before hinting about LA28.

“After Paris, my heart was so broken, you know, like I went there with big dreams of coming away as the fastest woman and it just wasn't to be on the day,” she said.

“So, you know, like for a few weeks, I was grieving a lot and feeling pretty low, but I've had incredible support from my friends and family.

“I think just getting back in the boat and having this event, you know, to go racing again has been a positive experience, so I'm excited to get back into training and start building for LA.

“There's a desire there, for the K1 500m.  That's the one and I'll start training, you know, full-time again and maybe make a plan towards LA.”
